For Rod Rust-hating Giants Fans Only

Desperate Democrats Hire Rod Rust To Devise War Strategy

With the country seemingly opposed to the Democrats strategy of Cut and Run and its less drastic cousin, the Cut and Jog, the DNC has retained the services of former New York Giants coach, Rod Rust, to help them devise a defensive strategy for getting out of Iraq while still looking good enough to win some elections.

Known for his innovative but ineffective notions, Rust seemed a perfect fit for the Democratic party and he immediately offered several novel approaches for consideration, among them the Split and Ride, the Flub and Flee and the Piss and Moan. Currently being evaluated by Democrats is a Rust scheme called the Sink or Swim. This commits us to staying in Iraq until everyone there can do the Australian crawl, after which we leave the country.

Title IX’s - The road to hell

Today, Title IX, is thirty-four years old and it has done more harm than good.

For non-feminists or those who don’t follow sports, Title IX is a law stating that athletic departments must be gender equal in opportunity and facilities. If there is a boy’s wrestling team, there must be a girl’s wrestling team; or, if the ratio of boy sports to girl sports is, say, sixty/forty, twenty percent of boy sports must be eliminated to make gender participation equal, if the percentage of girls participating in sports doesn’t rise above forty percent.

Title IX is a well intentioned and has increased women’s sports in schools, which was good and needed. But there were disastrous unintended consequences on many boys’ programs. Schools had to eliminate boys’ teams because not enough girls wanted to play a particular sport. Title IX nine held boys’ sports programs hostage.

Women beware

When Clinton signed the family leave legislation everyone thought we were finally approaching the humanity our European cousins display with similar laws that allow workers to take time off to care for a new baby or a sick relative.

Twelve weeks leave, with a guarantee of a job to return to.

The liberal largesse is beginning to escalate. Massachusetts is considering legislation that would not only give a worker twelve weeks off, but pay her as well. Employers are now paying twice for government forced humanity: Once to the absent worker and again to her replacement.

The government is once again doing its best to kill business people. They are like bad hunters stalking deer, shooting and maiming, damaging and wounding the poor animal, forcing it into a retreat of misery until it finally lays down and dies.

I stand corrected, or at least adjusted

A few posts down I railed against the current and growing practice of holding separate graduations for minorities of all kinds because I believe that any exclusionary event runs counter to the spirit of America. Most prominent among these ceremonies are the so-called “lavender” graduation for gays and lesbians.

If you go to the “Essays” category of this blog you’ll read my clear feelings about homosexuality. I firmly believe it is mostly genetic and these people are not making deliberate choices to be what they are. In other words, it isn’t a sin. No more a sin than being born with Down syndrome or four fingers on one hand.

Mangled Words

There must be something about being on TV that sends the unconscious message that plainspeak isn’t worthy enough for the all-seeing red eye of the camera. People feel the need to fancify their talk and good, sturdy words are being abducted to other meanings.

A few weeks ago when attorney Joe Cheshire introduced his client, David Evans, the third accused Duke lacrosse player, he kept using the word “respect,” which means to show deference and esteem. Paraphrasing, he told us that David’s parents had shown up, so please have respect for them being here, have respect that we’re requesting no questions after David’s opening statement, have respect that the whole team is showing support for their accused teammates. Clearly, what Cheshire was requesting was “consideration,” but the word doesn’t have the gravitas that respect has.

Colorado Rockies going Christian

In a remarkable article from Wednesday’s USA Today, the Colorado Rockies went public with the news that the organization has been explicitly looking for players with “character.” And according to the Tribe of Coors, “character” means accepting Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior.

This isn’t idle talk. The team will also change how they play the game, making it more in keeping with Christian principles.

There will be greater emphasis on ’saves’ and starting pitchers will only be allowed to work two or three innings before being yanked for someone to come in and save the game. Offensively, it will be preferred that RBI’s be driven in not with hits, but sacrifice flies.

No stealing. Bases will be earned, not stolen.
