My “24″ Credibility Breakage Point

A writing gaffe jumped out at me while watching last Monday’s 24 on TIVO yesterday. While it was small, a mini “jumping the shark” you might say, it nevertheless represents a larger writing issue: When does the writer’s work reach a credibility breakage point ? In short, when has the writer written something that causes a viewer to throw up his hands and just say, “Awwwww, gimme a fucking break.” Or, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.”

Just no abuse or name calling. Thanks.

Renaming Everything To Martin Luther King

On this Martin Luther King day, we at the Rename Everything To Martin Luther King Institute are at a crossroads. It has come to our attention that a school in Hempstead, NY, has renamed itself Obama Elementary. Already! And he doesn’t even have a library yet.

We must meet this renaming challenge before it begins or we will wake up one morning and discover that everything has been renamed after Obama and not Martin Luther King. We have been working hard, and urge you all to re-double your efforts.

Democrats – The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight

This is what the Illinois Blago Democrat fiasco reminds me of — a national version of Jimmy Breslin’s funny book about the hi-jinks of warring Mafia family underlings. However, instead of local, unimportant, dysfunctional wiseguys trying to get a hind leg up against the other, we have two prominent Democrat Mob factions in a turf war.

The families are the Democrats of Illinois, led by Don Rodolfo “The Pompadour” Blagovich, and the powerful Democrat Senate Family led by kingpin, Don Enrico “Numbnuts” Reid.

No Guilty Pleasures For 2009 — Just Pleasures

Why the hell do some pleasures have to be guilty? And where did that idea come from anyway?

As I see it, there are two parts to a guilty pleasure: The guilt that’s felt for enjoying something and an embarrassment to admit it. That’s because structurally, a guilty pleasure is something your peers think is crap.

People who determine what’s crap are The Elites, defined as those who think they’re smarter and more sophisticated than everyone else, even if they’re not. You’ll find most Elites in the media, academia, HuffPo or in Whole Foods.
