Diversity? What diversity?
A number of universities are holding separate graduation ceremonies for blacks, Hispanics, gays, Phillipinos, Asians and other minority groups. I thought the whole idea of diversity was to unite and combine our differences, not divide them. Leave it to today’s crop of leftist dunderheads to encourage the very evil their parents and grandparents fought so hard to eliminate in the 50’s and 60’s.
School desegregation was a triumph of the civil rights movement. Whether disrupting the lives of students by bussing and forced segregation from schools most kids felt familiar with was the proper way to do it is another question. Whether it helped students learn better is another question still. But the point was clear and valid — segregation was wrong, anti-American and violated all sense of justice and fair play.
From the beginning colleges tripped over themselves to please minorities by giving them separate buildings, separate study programs, separate departments. From the beginning many in collegiate minority groups segregated themselves from the larger white population. And no one said anything. Certainly not the craven liberal academics who turned a blind eye to the re-introduction of segregation on the campus. And the trend grew and the minorities became separate in colleges across the country.
And now it has culminated in separate graduation ceremonies for minorities. The liberal mantra of diversity has been hypocritically turned on its head by the very people who force it upon everyone else. The academics at these colleges are mostly liberal and they are the ones responsible for allowing these separate-but-equal graduation ceremonies, a slap in the face to those who fought to desegregate our schools and workplaces.
Is this what I got pounded by police for when I marched for civil rights back in the sixties? Is this what Goodman, Schwerner and Chaney died for? The right of minorities to be integrated into society so they can segregate themselves from it? What would Medgar Evars say to this disgusting liberal distortion of tolerance and civil rights?
One wonders what to call this liberal academic perversion — insanity or hypocrisy. I sure as hell don’t know.
